Great Deal on a Basic Laptop

imageHere’s a really good deal on a basic laptop at Best Buy.  It comes with an Intel Core i3 (the minimum I recommend, though there are lesser ones out there,) 4GB of memory, a 500GB hard drive, 15.6” LED backlit screen, webcam, DVD burner, numeric keypad, fast wired and wireless networking in a package less than 5 lbs.  All for only $369.

This is a great laptop for your email, web browsing, word processing, etc.

So if you’re in the market for a new laptop and don’t want to spend too much money, this is the one for you.  Here’s the link:

Deal: Dell Laptop for $399 With Core i5 Processor

imageThis is the best price I’ve ever seen for a Dell laptop with an Intel Core i5 processor.  Best Buy has this Dell Inspiron with a 720p HD 15.6” screen, 4GB of memory, a 500GB hard drive, DVD burner, built-in wireless and Bluetooth, webcam, media card reader, 3 USB ports, an HDMI port so you can connect it directly to your television and it comes with Windows 8.

The i5 processor is going to give you better performance than the i3 processors you typically see in a laptop at this price.

It appears (at least in the Austin area) that it is only available online and not in the stores.  Here’s the link:

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010–$90

imageBest Buy has Microsoft Home and Student 2010 on sale for $89.99, a really good price – especially when you consider that the license lets you install it onto THREE computers!  That’s only $30 per copy per PC!

This version of Office includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.  It does NOT include Outlook so if you need Outlook for email, then this isn’t the version for you.

I don’t know when the deal is over, but you can order it online and the shipping is FREE, so follow the link and go get yourself a deal:

Black Friday: Best Buy’s ad is Available

imageBlack Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, said to be the day many stores go into the “black” for the first time all year.  It’s a game every year played by the stores to try to keep their Black Friday deals a secret until the very last minute, that way their competition doesn’t have time to come up with better deals.  Well, the Best Buy ad has leaked out and you can see it here:

Some of the deals are a Sharp 42” 1080p television for $199, a $39 Toshiba Blu-ray player, an ASUS 10.1” Android tablet (that gets MY attention) and if you’re STILL not backing up your computer at home, they’ll have a Seagate 3TB (that’s 3,000 Gigabyte) external hard drive with both USB 2.0 and the newer MUCH faster USB 3.0 for $99.99.  There will be LOTS of deals leaking out over the next week and a half.  Check back here often – on the right you’ll see I’ve added a “Black Friday Deals” to the menu.  That’s where you’ll find my discoveries in case you miss one.  I won’t post these in the regular “Deal” topic because they have a very short and specific life.  I’ll be focusing on the “Tech” deals that I see, but obviously there will be deals on everything from dog food to bath towels.  For that you can check out sites like

Is There a Kindle in Your Christmas Future?

The problem with buying a Kindle up to now is that if you wanted to check it out before buying, you had to find someone who owned one, because the only way to buy one was online through Amazon.  I guess Amazon has figured out they will sell more if people can actually TOUCH one before buying, so this fall Best Buy, Target and Staples will start selling the Kindle.  With other e-readers already in the market and the iPad and soon to be plethora of Android tablets, I wouldn’t be surprised to see great prices this holiday season.
