I’m sorry folks, but Carbonite has (and it’s been a while) raised the price on their data backup service. The increase for a year’s service is $12 + tax. If you’re a Carbonite customer through me you’ll see the increase in your next invoice.
With the latest update of Firefox, my previously FAVORITE add-on is now an option on the toolbar, the “Tree-Style Tabs”. If you have a wide-screen monitor it gives you more tabs to see on the left rather than across the top. So far, it seems to perform well.
Note that this doesn’t affect web pages, they are what they are and Firefox can’t change that. It’s just the look of the menu bar across the top – mostly in color that has changed.
Just letting y’all know. EMBRACE the change – it keeps us young!
There is a new vulnerability that has been found in the WPA2 protocol that you are most likely using for your wi-fi at home.
The flaw is known as KRACK. It’s my understanding that if you’re running Windows Microsoft patched it this month. I believe Macs are ok as well. Portable devices and routers need to be checked to make sure you have the latest updates. All the manufactures were advised of the flaw a while ago in time to get the fix in place before it going public.
I called Spectrum and their support had absolutely no clue (didn’t even know about it) as to if or when their routers would be updated to fix the flaw.
Note, the flaw is in all unpatched devices using WPA2 (if you’re using a weaker protocol you’re still at risk and then some.)
If you have a 3rd party router like a Linksys, DLink, ASUS, Belkin, etc. you need to go to the manufacture’s site and download and install the latest firmware. I know for most of you that’s something you don’t know how to do so contact me and we’ll set up a time for me to remote in and take care of it for you for a nominal (that means cheap) cost. It only takes a few minutes.
Make sure your iPhones, iPads and Android devices are all up to date. The only good thing about this is that someone has to be in wi-fi range to take advantage of the flaw.

This is a FAST computer – it boots to the desktop in 13 seconds – I just timed it.
I’ll personally warrantee this computer for 90 days, the new hard drive comes with a 3-year warrantee and the memory has a limited lifetime warrantee.
The XPS series is Dell’s premiere consumer line, it’s not the Inspiron entry level line. You’ll probably have to spend $700 or more to get a laptop with better performance than this. The advantage of logging into your Windows computer with your Microsoft account is that if you want to purchase an app from the Microsoft Store or IF you use OneDrive (not my first recommendation) you’re already logged in.
I know that MOST of you don’t purchase apps from the store. If you’re like me and log into your computer with a LOCAL account (meaning it doesn’t matter if your computer is online or not AND Microsoft doesn’t know each time you log onto your computer) then your Windows 10 computer will on occasion show you this little message in the corner…
The ONLY problem with your Microsoft account is that Microsoft can’t tell when you’re using your computer (for the most part.) So DON’T WORRY when you see this message, and don’t feel the need to create a Microsoft account to change how you log onto your computer. Just SMILE and say “no thank you Microsoft” the next time you see it.
